Tens of thousands marched throughout Norway on Thursday calling for an end to 'the violence in Gaza' Gaza and police used tear gas to disperse a few hundred others who turned violent during a separate pro-Israel demonstration in Oslo.

No serious injuries were reported. Police said one officer was treated for cuts to his face, and at least 27 protesters were detained.

The state television network NRK estimated the crowd in Oslo to be up to 40,000 calling for Israelis and Palestinians to stop attacking each other and seek peace. There were also peaceful marches by thousands in other Norwegian cities.

A pro-Israel demonstration of about 500 people turned ugly when several hundred young pro-Palestinian demonstrators began hurling rocks, bottles and fireworks toward police and Israeli supporters.

The police used tear gas to disperse the crowd there and again against about 100 anti-Israel protesters who moved to the Israeli Embassy across the city.
