Netherlands: US wants to learn from Dutch terror-fighting experience

This meeting was held, of course, before the Times Square bombing attempt.

The American government has shown interest in the way in which the Netherlands deals with 'local terrorists', such as Theo van Gogh's murderer Mohammed Bouyeri. According to the spokesperson for the Dutch Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin, the American Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security told Hirsch Ballin that they would like to use the Dutch experience with 'homegrown terrorism'.

According to the spokesperson, the Americans were particularly interested in the way in which the national security services in the Netherlands work together with the local authorities. Hirsch Ballin spoke with Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and his colleague Attorney General Eric Holder at the Dutch embassy in Washington.

Napolitano came a few hours later than was originally planned. She was been to visit the oil-disaster threatened state of Louisiana.
